These indicators provide information on Belgium’s progress towards the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted by the United Nations: Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

The website presents 84 indicators, classified and numbered in accordance to the SDGs. All these indicators were selected by the Interfederal Statistical Institute.

Time series and methodological information are available for each indicator. Each indicator is assessed against its sustainable development objective, whether a numerical target or a desired direction. Results are displayed as green (favourable), orange (undetermined), or red (unfavourable) icons, based on the methodology explained in Appendix 7.5 of Sustainable Development Indicators 2026.

Since 2022, the annual report “Indicators of Sustainable Development” has been a continuation of the reports on complementary indicators to Gross Domestic Product (GDP). In this context, the Federal Planning Bureau has developed composite indicators that measure, in a synthetic way, the well-being of current and future generations in Belgium, as well as Belgium's impact on the well-being of people elsewhere in the world (see indicators). By using three indicators per SDG, the Federal Planning Bureau provides a balanced assessment of Belgium's trends towards the Sustainable Development Goals.
