Sustainable development indicators

These indicators provide information on Belgium’s progress towards the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted by the United Nations: Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The website presents 70 indicators, with two tabs for each indicator:

  • Data with figures and sources;
  • Description with information on the link with the UN objectives and indicators (and more in French and Dutch).

The indicators belong to different, but overlapping sets:

  • assessment by the Federal Planning Bureau of 34 sustainable development indicators, measuring their progress towards their objectives;
  • BGDP: 67 complementary indicators to the gross domestic product (Beyond GDP) prepared by the Federal Planning Bureau within the framework of the National Accounts Institute;
  • VNR17: 34 indicators, selected in 2017 by the Interfederal Statistical Institute for the Belgian Voluntary National Review to the United Nations.
