Renewable energy

In 2015, 7.9% of Belgiumʹs gross final energy consumption was produced from renewable sources. To achieve the sustainable development goal by 2030, this share must be increased to 18%. The Federal Planning Bureauʹs projections indicate that this objective will be reached. The share of renewable energy is therefore developing favourably.

VNR Indicator: Renewable energy, percentage of gross final energy consumption

Definition: percentage of the energy consumption produced from renewable sources in the gross final energy consumption, as defined in the European Directive 2009/28/EC. The gross final energy consumption is the energy consumed by all final users, including losses in the transport network and the auto-consumption of the energy sector.

Objective: the share of renewable energy in the gross final energy consumption should increase.

UN Target 7.2: By 2030, increase substantially the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix

UNSTAT Indicator 7.2.1: Renewable energy share in the total final energy consumption
