Sustainable fisheries

In 2016, 50% of the fish stocks in the North Sea and boundary waters were within biologically sustainable yield values. To achieve the sustainable development goal by 2030, this figure must be increased to 100%. This objective will be reached by continuing the trend since 2007. Sustainable fisheries are therefore developing favourably.

UN target: 14.4 - By 2020, effectively regulate harvesting and end overfishing, illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing and destructive fishing practices and implement science-based management plans, in order to restore fish stocks in the shortest time feasible, at least to levels that can produce maximum sustainable yield as determined by their biological characteristics.

UN indicator: the selected indicator corresponds to indicator 14.4.1 - Proportion of fish stocks within biologically sustainable levels.
